At Louisville Girls Leadership, we are always striving to help equip young people with tools that will help navigate their journey of self-development through education, advocacy, and action, enhancing their potential as leaders. The experience leaves them with critical life and leadership skills that will instill the necessary confidence to tap into their vast potential and, in turn, become a source of empowerment to make positive change in their schools and community. Established and led by students, it is modeled after Leadership Louisville with a series of sessions that give young people the opportunity to explore, discuss, and develop leadership skills. We are a program for all cis and trans girls, as well as non-binary folx who are comfortable in a space that centers the experience of girls.

Key aspects of the program:

•  We are now inviting sophomores, juniors and seniors to apply! In the past, this program has only been open to sophomores to join. We recognize to build a stronger community, we need students at all levels.

• This year, we have new and improved programming that centers on the individual student and how they show up as leaders! Our program will ask students to reflect upon themselves and then apply the tools and opportunities presented in our learning sessions.

• Students will have the opportunity to network with some of Louisville’s brightest women leaders, including during our LGL Power Mixer event, exclusively held based on students’ career interests!

• Students will be able to stay with the LGL program after completing their work in the cohort by joining our Steering Committee. Steering Committee members are juniors and seniors that help develop programming and facilitate sessions alongside the staff.

All 10th, 11th, or 12th grade students interested must apply through our online application process. We will accept a cohort of 40 sophomores to the program. We strive for a recruitment plan that encourages an equitable selection process, allowing us to fill our roster with students who represent the diversity found throughout Louisville, who are able to take on the LGL time commitment, and who have an enthusiastic connection to our mission.
