LGL Curriculum VISTA
Louisville Girls Leadership has an open position for an LGL Curriculum AmeriCorps VISTA!
The individual serving in this role will be a critical member of the LGL team from August 2019-July 2020. The role centers on building the capacity of LGL to recruit and retain girls in underserved communities for this unique out-of-school programming. The VISTA project will result in development and documentation of meaningful, sustainable outreach and recruitment procedures, resources, and training tools. The member will prepare and sustain program sites for implementation, track data on members, and support curriculum development.
AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a national service program dedicated to fighting poverty domestically. VISTAs rarely provide direct service e.g. tutoring, mentoring etc. Instead, VISTAs serve at individual organizations to improve and develop programs, processes, and services.

Living Allowance —
Every AmeriCorps VISTA receives a stipend intended to cover essential costs like housing, food, and utilities. It is a modest living allowance and VISTAs are often required to live frugally to make ends meet. The amount of the stipend is adjusted to reflect the cost of living in a given area.

End of Service Award —
Upon completing a year of service, AmeriCorps VISTAs are eligible to receive either a cash stipend or an education award. The Education Award is equivalent to the Pell Grant amount at that time. Currently, it is approximately $6,000 per year served. The end of service cash stipend is $1,500.
Healthcare Coverage —
All VISTAs are expected to have health insurance unless they are exempt under the Affordable Care Act. For those with existing coverage, VISTA provides a health care allowance. For those that are exempt, VISTA provides a Health Benefit Plan.
